FOODWORKS Launches National Food Donation Program On Stop Food Waste Day 2023
National restaurant incubator brings together small business partners to fight food waste and food insecurity
To celebrate Stop Food Waste Day on April 26th, FOODWORKS, a restaurant incubator that is part of Compass Group USA will introduce a national food donation program to help eliminate food waste. Specialists in creating unique dining solutions in collaboration with local small businesses and food vendors across the country, FOODWORKS is eager to launch this program to recognize its partners who are dedicated to eliminating food waste from their business model and focused on fighting food insecurity in their communities.
According to recent studies, Americans waste 40 percent of food produced, and food is the number one item filling up landfills. Meanwhile, one-in-eight Americans are food insecure and struggle to access nutritious meals. The best way at-home consumers can fight food waste is to reduce surplus food and can do so by donating surplus food to local charities and nonprofits in the area.
Understanding the best way to fight food waste is to reduce surplus food not only in the production process, but through donations, FOODWORKS is implementing this new program in cities across the country. Every day FOODWORKS’ partners will distribute and donate leftover food to local charities and food mission sites in their communities to help fight the rise of food waste and food insecurity.
In honor of this new program, participating FOODWORKS partners will host Stop Food Waste Day activities that build awareness of the food donations and some of the country’s top culinary leaders will encourage guests to adopt small changes that can make a big difference in reducing food waste and protecting the environment.
Participating partners and regional Stop Food Waste Day activities taking place on April 26th, include:
Phoenix – Aioli Gourmet Burgers: Owner/2019 Food Network’s Chopped Champion Chef Tom D’Ambrosio will be participating in a Guest Chef’s Table at Honeywell
Houston – IFC Food Service: Owner of IFC Food Service, Chef Jason Howard, will be participating in a Guest Chef’s Table at Halliburton
Asheville, N.C. – These partners will encourage guests to take the “Stop Food Waste Day” pledge at each location and will provide recipe cards with tips for using leftover fridge items, rather than discarding them
Ben’s Backdraft BBQ | Mac’s Seafood | Baba Nahm’s Mediterranean
New York - OneSeed: will conduct a popup at Warner Brother’s Discovery where they will distribute “Waste Not Wag A Lot” dog treats that utilize leftover kitchen ingredients
In addition to these events, other FOODWORKS small businesses are introducing the food donation program to their daily practices.
